Sidenor Aceros Especiales, S.L. (hereafter SIDENOR), formerly Sidenor Industrial, S.L., is a company dedicated to steel manufacturing and processing. It is the leading steel company in the segment of special steel long products in Europe and in the field of forged and cast pieces worldwide. SIDENOR has four production centres, located in Basauri (Biscay), Reinosa (Cantabria), Vitoria (Álava) and Azkoitia (Guipúzcoa), 2,165 employees and an estimated production of 750,000 tonnes per year.
SIDENOR is committed to optimising the management of refractory waste generated in its daily activities and is carrying out various internal and external projects focused on this topic. As a result of this strategy, SIDENOR was the winner of the 2015-2016 edition of the European Business Awards for the Environment in their Spanish section, in the category “Process for Sustainable Development”, which are awarded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment. In line with this strategy, the LIFE 5REFRACT project aims at systematising practices already known and developing new practices in order to optimize circular economy in terms of refractories.
Product Manager and Head of Innovation at SIDENOR, Félix Bayón has over six years of experience in the definition and management of R&TD projects and a deep knowledge of steel materials and processes (due to its prior experience of more than 20 years in the Technical Department, Sales Department and Engineering Department).
He obtained a PhD in Industrial Engineering by the University of the Basque Country (UPV / EHU).
